ABSTRACT

Objective:To retrospectively evaluate the effects of lung-protective ventilation strategies on postoperative pulmonary complications in the patients undergoing long-time neurosurgery. Methods:Based on the duration of anesthesia>8 h, the clinical data from patients underwent elective first craniotomy under general anesthesia from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021 were retrospectively collected. Patients were divided into lung-protective ventilation group (group L) and conventional mechanical ventilation group (group C) according to whether lung-protective ventilation was performed during operation. The baseline characteristics, intraoperative condition, postoperative pulmonary complications and hospitalization of patients in the two groups were recorded. Results:Compared with group C, the tidal volume was significantly decreased, positive end-expiratory pressure and respiratory rate were increased, the incidence of intraoperative hypoxemia was decreased, the number of patients with grade 1 according to the severity grade of postoperative pulmonary complications was significantly increased, and the length of hospital stay was shortened in group L ( P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the baseline characteristics, incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications at 7 days after surgery and other parameters between group L and group C ( P>0.05). Conclusions:Lung-protective ventilation strategies can reduce the severity of postoperative pulmonary complications in the patients undergoing long-time neurosurgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3), an autophagy marker protein, in ameloblastomas. Methods Immunohistochemical methods were employed to evaluate the expression of LC3 in104 cases of ameloblastomas and 20 cases of normal oral mucosal tissues. The results were analyzed by a semiquantitative analysis method. Results The reactivity of LC3 in the epithelial cells of ameloblastomas was positive, and the positivity rate was significantly higher than that in normal oral mucosal tissues (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences between the LC3 expression levels with respect to age, gender, or recurrence (P < 0.05). The positivity rate in mandible ameloblastomas was significantly higher than that in maxilla and gingiva ameloblastomas (P < 0.05). The reactivity for LC3 was significantly higher in solid ameloblastomas than that in the other three tissue types (P < 0.05). Conclusion Autophagic activity in ameloblastomas was higher than that in normal oral mucosal tissues. This suggests that autophagy plays an important role during tumorigenesis, and contributes to the local invasion of ameloblastomas.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of CORM-2 via p38 mitogeu-activated protein kinase (p38MAPK) signaling pathway on the expression of the mitochondrial fission protein 1 (Fisl) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced mouse pulmonary macrophages.Methods The rat subculture alveolar macrophages were seeded on 96 well plates with 2 × 105/ml densities.After 24 hours of culture,it was divided into 4 groups by random number table method:normal control group (group C),group LPS (group L),CO releasing agent CORM-2 + LPS group (group LC),p38MAPK inhibitor SB203580 + CORM-2 + LPS group (group LCS).When the cells were incubated for 24 hours,the mitochondrial MDA content and SOD activity were determined by ELISA kit,the levels of HO-1、mitochondrial fission protein Fis1 and p38 were determined by Western blot,the expressions of HO-1 and mitochondrial fission protein Fis1 were detected by RT-PCR.Results Compared with the C group,the levels of MDA [(2.43 ±0.12) vs.(3.59 ±0.07)],HO-1 [(1.31±0.27) vs.(1.65±0.41)],Fis1 [(1.27±0.23) vs.(1.65±0.41)] andp38 [(1.01 ±0.24) vs.(1.36 ±0.17)] in group L were increased,and the activity of SOD [(81.7 ± 1.62) vs.(54.7 ± 1.62)] was decreased (P < 0.05);Compared with the group L,the MDA content [(3.59 ± 0.07) vs.(3.08 ±0.52)] and the level of Fis1 [(2.01 ±0.35) vs.(1.48 ±0.39)] in group LC were down-regulated,and the levels of SOD [(54.7 ± 1.62) vs.(67.4 ± 1.32)]、and the expressions of HO-1 [(1.65±0.41)vs.(2.25±0.18)] andp38 [(1.36±0.17) vs.(1.78±0.23)] wereup-regulated (P <0.05).Compared with the group LC,the MDA content [(3.08 ±0.52) vs.(4.16 ±0.19)] and the expression of Fis1 [(1.48 ±0.39) vs.(1.96 ±0.31)] in group LCS were increased,and the level of SOD [(67.4±1.32)vs.(45.9±1.52)]、and the expressions of HO-1 [(2.25±0.18)vs.(1.78± 0.19)] and p38 [(1.78 ±0.23) vs.(1.12 ±0.29)] were decreased (P <0.05).Conclusions HO-1/CO system inhibits the expression of Fis1 in LPS-induced lung macrophages,which may be regulated by p38MAPK signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of combination of Beyond cold light whitening and fluoride-removing material bleaching system for treatment of dental fluorosis. Methods: Seventy-five patients with light, medium and heavy dental fluorosis were randomly divided into three groups. Twenty-five patients with 150 dental fluorosis from the experiment group were treated with Beyond cold light bleaching combined with fluoride-removing material;Twenty-five patients with 148 dental fluorosis from the control group one were treated with Beyond cold light bleaching. Twenty-five patients with 148 dental fluorosis from the control group two were treated with fluoride-removing material. The changes of teeth color were evaluated by Vita shade guide matching after treatment. Results: All of the light dental fluorosis in three groups had good lightening efficacy and 100% bleaching efficacy. The Shade value improvement and overall efficacy of observer group were better than the control groups for the medium and heavy fluorosis(P<0.05). Conclusion: Beyond cold light whitening combined with fluoride-removing material in bleaching is a good method for dental fluorosis bleaching.

ABSTRACT

Multi-modal medical image fusion has important value in clinical diagnosis and treatment. In this paper, the multi-resolution analysis of Daubechies 9/7 Biorthogonal Wavelet Transform is introduced for anatomical and functional image fusion, then a new fusion algorithm with the combination of local standard deviation and energy as texture measurement is presented. At last, a set of quantitative evaluation criteria is given. Experiments show that both anatomical and metabolism information can be obtained effectively, and both the edge and texture features can be reserved successfully. The presented algorithm is more effective than the traditional algorithms.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the effects of indicated concentrations VEGF and DEX on MMP-9 expression and motility of Tca-8113 cell. Methods:Immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR methods were used to detect protein and mRNA changes of MMP-9 in tongue squamous cell with VEGF and DEX treatment. Cell motility was also observed with Transwell incubation. Results:The level of protein and mRNA of MMP-9 as well as cell motility increased with indicated concentrations VEGF(1,5,10 ng/ml) in a dose dependent way(P
